Get it, Wouri!

Happy Tuesday folks! Hope all is well.

As another NYFW comes to a close, I want to take a moment and shout-out wardrobe stylist Wouri Vice. Wouri is a friend, mentor and renowned wardrobe stylist to the starrsss honey! I had the absolute God-ordained pleasure of meeting and working with Wouri on several styling projects a few years back. I wholeheartedly believe it when people says "it's who you know" because that's exactly how I came to meet Wouri. What had happened was - a mutual colleague arranged for me to assist Wouri on a magazine photo shoot he was styling. Overcome with anticipation to assist an actual celebrity stylist, I arrived on set only to realize I had no idea what Wouri looked like lol. I recall seeing this bubbly black guy bouncing through the door with this presence about him that demanded attention. He introduced himself as Wouri, the stylist, and to say I was shocked was an understatement. I honestly never expected him to be black for starters! And second, I was taken aback with how down-to-earth and casual he was! Maybe I was naive, but this small-town Iowa girl had the preconceived notion that a celebrity stylist (especially one with a resume like Wouri's) would have an ego out of this world! But nope! My little Iowa brain was enlightened that day! After that I worked with Wouri any chance I got. Every styling experience was different, but one thing that was consistent was the laughter. I don't think I have ever laughed so much in my life (don’t be sad #IYKYK)! I learned a lot from Wouri Vice, and met so many amazing peers (what up, Landou?) and celebrities.

Wouri Vice has a vast resume with clients ranging from Tika Sumpter, to Andra Day, to Janet Jackson. Yes, you read that correctly...Janet Jackson. The one and only! Wouri recently had the honor of styling Ms. Jackson (if ya nasty) for the Harlem Fashion Row’s 15th Anniversary Fashion Show and Style Awards at General Grant National Memorial, where she was presented with the "Icon of the Year" Award. A flick of the magic wand and poof Wouri created a look for Janet that is chic, fun, edgy and effortless. Wouri's genius ability to mix hi-low pieces is one of his greatest talents. Recognizing the extravagance of the almond tulle skirt (by Off-White, RIP Virgil Abloh) Wouri chose to pair it with a more understated screen tee and cropped blazer. He rounded off the ensemble with chunky statement jewelry. Ms. Jackson opted for clean makeup and beautiful braids swept halfway up to a bee-hive. Literal fashion warrior goddess vibes! I am in love with this look! Fun Fact about me: I have a thing for jumbo hoop earrings and anything with tulle material! To say I'm proud of Wouri would be an understatement. To say I'm inspired by Wouri would be an understatement. I am simply in awe. In awe of his perseverance, his talent, his credit to the most-high, and the humble spirit that dwells within him. I’m in awe of God, and how he is always working things out behind-the-scenes for our good as long as we keep fighting the good fight. This is just the beginning as I know God has much more abundance in store for Wouri Vice. I know me and Wouri will cross paths again, but until that time comes I'll be cheering him on from a distance! Get it, Wouri!

Love you, Wouri Vice. Thank you for everything

Styling Off,
